Robert_Luciani_from_Laketide_at_Data_Innovation_SummitLarge enterprises in every industry have caught wind of the trends in big data and machine learning but are unable to readily capitalize on them for a number of reasons. One reason is how hard it is to secure competent resources. People with a background in SQL, SAS, and finance are simply rebranding themselves as data scientists and businesses are none the wiser. You can read in my blog post The Shift From Statistics to Data Science on which technical skills I believe a modern data scientist should posses. The greater challenge though, from a business perspective, lies in the leadership required to put a science practice in a position to actually deliver, not on technology, but on improved operational efficiency and new revenue.
